Engadget.com writes that DIREC TV is expected to upgrade its GenieGo device today, which was formally called as Nomad, to allow iOS and Windows users to download streams of videos from their HD DVRs over wireless connections away from home or at home.
This device costs about $149.99 and has permitted the transfer of content to a tablet, cell phone or laptop, which has the application of DIREC TV installed, from your DIREC TV HD DVR. However, the content has to be downloaded later and then watched.
This device will help you stream the recorded and live programming instantly to your computer from the set top box so that you can watch it immediately. You can also stream the programs on iPhone and iPad. The capability of GenieGo device will soon match up to the Slingbox which has long helped the viewers to watch their TV channels away from home in real time.
The folks at DBSTalk, a message board favored by DIREC TV employees, have been testing the device and have posted already one of their detailed walkthroughs, in which the fact is revealed that the box will work as ‘TiVoToGo-style’ transcoder.
DIREC TV, the satellite TV provider, said that its Latin America unit, ‘Sky Brasil’, due to improper practices by some of its employees, had over reported the number of subscribers by about 200,000 at the end of March. The company said that it will substantially remove all the improperly-recognized active subscribers by the end of June. On 7th June, 2013, when the company reported its first quarter results, the shares of the company fell down marginally.
