Technology has its drawbacks, which cost badly at times. The recent prank conducted by someone on maps services provided by Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) proved this point correct. According to reports, Google Maps spotted Edward Snowden living in the White House within Edwards Snow Den.
How It Happened:
As per the reports, it was a prank played by someone. Any business that had just come online on Google Maps listed itself under the address of White House. Marketing Land spotted it first and notified. Soon people from all over the country started noticing it. Some of the viewers even left comments in the review section of this business listing. They wrote, ” top notch info on the cheap” and ” great source of classified information.” As soon as Google came to know about this incident, it deleted all the comments instantly.
Earlier, Google verified the business and classified it as a snowboard shop. The business hours of this shop were between 5am to 11pm daily. There was a contact number given the address. As soon as people noticed it, they started calling the given number. It ranged, but was never picked up by the owner. While the listing can still be viewed, but Google is trying hard to remove it from White House as soon as possible.
It’s funny though, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) itself couldn’t cross the boundaries of White House ever since it was founded, but a business that listed itself on its platform some time back entered in the White House without any hassle. The incident has revealed the loophole in Google’s listing procedure and has put a question mark on how effectively does the company pay attention to all the listings. Nobody from Google came ahead and gave an explanation on this issue, seems like the company has put all the key resources to remove the listing from White House.
