Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has recorded an upsurge in its search engine usage on the mobile phones. In a digital advertising conference held on Tuesday, Google announced that for the first time, mobiles had outdone pc search in the U.S., owning to the rising popularity of the smartphones. Over half of the total searches from over 100 billion search requests that it gets each month globally. Google has ascertained that around 40% mobile users, looking for new apps are also using Google search to look for local, tech, travel or other specific apps.
Online Behavior Change
This finding is an indication of the change in online behavior since2007, when the first Apple iPhone hit the market. The smartphones trend has also had a diverse impact on the PC manufacturing and technology companies as demand for desktop computer and laptops have drastically gone down. Google has stood through it all because its search engine is compatible on all iOS and Android platforms.
Jerry Dischler, Google vice president for Adwords said that the future of mobile was now. He noted that the change in online search trend was noted in 10 countries, including U.S. and Japan. Even as the ad prices have seen a decline in the past, the mobile ad prices for Google are on an all-time high. This is because the marketers are recognizing the need for using it to reach out to a wider audience.
Digital Ad Market
At present, Google has two major competitors in the digital ad market-Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR). According to estimates by the EMarketer Inc, the mobile advertising share of Google is expected to decline from 38% in 2014, to 35% in 2015.
The tech giant has made its advertising formats responsive for better accessibility on mobile devices. There are features that let the users make bookings from an ad itself.
For example, if a hotel ad is opened by a user, he can directly book a room from there. To make the search engine more user-friendly, Google has also unveiled a new feature of comparing mortgage rates across the
U.S. This is an extension to its auto insurance policy feature that was launched in March. Texas, Illinois and Pennsylvania have been added to the auto insurance service.
