Boston, MA 09/11/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Gogo Inc (NASDAQ:GOGO) and T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) have teamed up for delivering free in-flight voicemail and texting services to their consumers. The new services will be available exclusively on Gogo equipped U.S. airline aircraft. The new services will be starting from September 17, 2014. It is great news for T-Mobile customers as now they can use the services on more than 2,000 US commercial aircrafts.
The deal
As per the agreement, customers of T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) will not be charged for sending and receiving picture and text messages. They can also use the visual voicemail on their Smartphones while traveling in Gogo Inc (NASDAQ:GOGO)’s equipped US airline aircraft for free. The primary objective of the deal is to provide the customers on the plane with connectivity enabled services and products.
The benefits
With the new services, passengers can stay connected with their family and friends on the ground. They can use the entertainment features and can also complete their work in flight. The free voicemail and text messages in flight will engage a certain group of passengers in the planes that are looking for certain connectivity options to stay connected while they are in the aircraft. They don’t look for a full connectivity session but expects some flexibility in terms of connection.
The process
T-Mobile customers who want to access the free voicemail and messaging services will need Wi-Fi calling-enabled Smartphone in airplane mode. The devices should be connected to Gogo Wi-Fi. They can start the browser and confirm to be a T-Mobile subscriber. They will be guided with the instructions on the browser. Also, if they make just one Wi-Fi call before boarding the flight, it will activate the feature of Wi-Fi calling. It is a must activity so as to use the free Gogo Wi-Fi service while in-flight. It is a key partnership between T-Mobile US Inc (NYSE:TMUS) and Gogo Inc (NASDAQ:GOGO) that can add up in their customers in coming time.
