This is clear from the automaker’s recent move to announce Alicia Boler-Davis as its senior vice president for global quality as well as customer experience. Alicia boasts of 17 years of hands-on experience within General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) where she overlooked its car factories.
In the past, the company had separated its “quality” and “customer care” responsibilities among different divisions who were in turn reported to senior executives, however, it soon realized the importance of harmonizing these responsibilities. As a result, Alicia has been given a greater combined responsibility to boost its customer satisfaction as well as quality.In this role, she will directly report to the company’s CEO Daniel F Akerson.
After 2009, the company which has emerged from bankruptcy has lately been under scanner for its below par customer care and vehicle quality. The company has been bailed out for $49.5 billion out of the tax payers funds in 2009 is forced to revamp its business. Before the bailout, the company was engaged more towards internal re-structuring through cost cuttings. While the new agenda is also about revenue additions of over and above $5 billion in the United States alone,but the main emphasis centers more on improving service as serviced by the company’s dealers, call centers and others.
Although Boler-Davis has just completed four months on her new role, but General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has already started adding some victories in its kitty. In this year itself, the company’s Chevy Iaddmpala and pilverado has been acclaimed for its pickup and named as the top sedan in the United States by the Consumer Reports. Over and above,the company also steered ahead as a leader with its eight vehicles gaining top honors in their respective segments in a primary quality study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates’. On an optimistic note, the company is seen well on its way to regain its No. 1 position.
