Boston, MA 08/19/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has planned to build a solar energy array in collaboration with DTE Energy Co. at the world headquarter of the company located in suburban Detroit.

The entire project is funded by Detroit-based DTE. It will focus on 360 covered parking spaces and power generation for 30 charging stations for those vehicles that are run through plug-in electricity. The management of Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) is quite happy about this initiative. Bill Ford, the executive chairman of Ford, said, “This solar project reflects our long history of deep commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Nowadays all the major organizations are taking initiatives to improve the sustainability in business, Ford’s initiative is one such step. According to reports, the solar canopy can generate as much as 1 MW of renewable electricity. It is enough to give ample power to 158 average-sized homes. It is just the starting, as the management has given hints to expand the solar power array in the future if things go according to plan.
Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) and DTE Energy have entered into an agreement according to which the latter will build, maintain and operate the solar carport for 20 years. Reports claim that the construction of the solar power array will begin in the next months and will last till early 2015. DTE will set up an on-site kiosk which will provide complete information about solar power and also give insights of Ford carport.
It is a part of DTE’s initiative SolarCurrents in which the company focuses on the development of renewable energy sources across the globe. According to the amendment of Michigan law, organizations will have to produce at least 10% of their complete power from renewable sources by the end of next year. It is the second collaboration between Ford and DTE in recent years. Both of them came together in 2010 also to install a 500 kW solar panel system in the Michigan Assembly Plant of Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), which is located in the Detroit suburb of Wayne.
