Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Tests Disappearing Posts On iOS App

Boston, MA 09/11/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) loves to play with its application and this is evident from its recent experiment of “timed posts.” Some of the Facebook users recently encountered time-based posts on their profile, which means that the post will get deleted automatically as per the set time. The updates can be deleted with the two options- 1-24 hours or 2-7 days. The spokesperson of the company told The Next Web that this experiment was nothing more than a “small pilot.” However, it indicates towards the fact that the company is taking user’s privacy and their ephemerality aspect into consideration.

Self- Destructing Posts

The self-destructing testing tool has been enabled for a few users on the iOS application for mobile devices of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). This scheduled deletion of posts can be done in advance depending upon when a user wants it to be eradicated from his/her profile.

The idea seems similar to slingshot, an application that allows disappearing content after its read or seen. FFacebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) had earlier also tested this disappearing content idea on the site, but later abandoned it. Thereafter, it created its individual application called slingshot, which has a lot of features similar to Snapchat. Before this, Facebook had also launched an app called Poke that was also akin features of Snapchat.

Nothing New

However, the idea of testing something like this does not seem to be new for Facebook. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), before rolling out any new aspect on a large scale, tries to test its few features with the “willing participants.” The latest trial will delete the posts from your profile, but it is important to note that these posts might remain “saved” on Facebook servers for time duration of up to 90 days. This will happen because of offline backup as well as logs. This means that even though a user deletes the content from his/her profile, but it shall remain seated on company’s server rather than being destroyed completely.
