The son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been arrested after allegedly shooting his mother and the coach’s wife multiple times in the couple’s Virginia home.
Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling, according to a press release by the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office.
The release states one adult, presumably Mia Bieniemy, suffered “multiple gunshot wounds.”
Eric Bieniemy was with the Chiefs in Missouri at the time.
A source confirmed to Fox News Digital that Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized overnight.
“The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau said Monday that police arrived at a home located on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, Sunday evening and arrested Bieniemy. He was transported to the Loudon County Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
The police investigation is ongoing.
It is expected Eric Bieniemy will request a temporary leave from the team to attend to his wife and family, an NFL source said.
The Chiefs had coaches, rookies and quarterbacks report to camp at St. Joseph, Missouri, on the campus of Missouri Western State, on Friday. Veteran players report on Tuesday.
Bieniemy, 56, returned to the Chiefs this year as their offensive coordinator after spending time with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears and UCLA’s football program.
