Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) To Offer $84,190 Grant To Crystal Lake High School

Boston, MA 09/18/2014 (wallstreetpr) – According to reports, Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) has decided to give $84,190 grant to community high school District 155 in order to improve the level of education. A person close to this matter revealed that DFE wanted to improve the financial literacy of students. For the same reason, the company announced a grant on Wednesday. The grant is a part of the $10 million amount that it announced to invest in financial success program in various high schools around the country over the next five years.

Response of School Administration:

After the announcement of Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS), the management of District 155 school felt extremely please and thankful to the company. Johnnie Thomas, Superintendent of School, said that the entire grant amount announced by DFS would be invested towards adding advanced courses in macroeconomics and microeconomics, as well as a consumer rights education. He further added that the school applied for a grant in order to strengthen the financial education curriculum. According to him it was the largest grant amount given to any school in the Illinois; therefore, it was a proud moment for school administration. He also thanked the entire administration for putting up a lot of efforts while preparing a strong proposal at the time of applying for a grant.

Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) conducted a survey in 2013, in which it found that most of the high school seniors accepted that strong financial knowledge tied with Math was most important for securing a good career, but most of the high-school lacked resources to provide good financial knowledge. The financial success program of Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) has already distributed around $8 million to various schools across the country. Most of the schools lack strong financial education system, but District 155 School is trying hard for overall development of the students. For the same reason, it has launched Virtual Enterprises International course in which students grab the various positions from executives to CFO and run various business operations.
