Coffee Chain Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) To Invest $3 Million For Youth In China

Boston, MA 06/09/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX), the giant coffee chain, has announced an investment of around $3 million for developing leadership and job opportunities for the youth in China. Starbucks has marked its presence in 68 cities of china with more than 1,200 units. By 2015, it expects to make China the biggest market outside the U.S. with more than 1,500 branches.

Opportunities For Youth:

Out of the total investment, almost half of the value will go towards the China Soong Ling Foundation, also known as CSCLF. This aid gives a boost to the eight year old relationship between CSCLF and Starbucks. It was also mentioned that the International non-profit organization, Give2Asia will administer the working

Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) also plans to develop a Youth Leadership Development Program, which will help students to build requisite skills under the guidance of Starbucks mentors. Students shall also be presented with an opportunity to undertake training courses from the Starbucks China University. Moreover, they will also be offered a chance to undergo internship with the coffeehouse. The program plans to help 1,500 young students of China.

Starbucks And China:

Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) aims to strengthen its ties with China, where it has the intention to expand its business in the coming years. The coffeehouse also intends to project itself as an employer of choice in this region.

Last week Starbucks hosted a program by the name of Starbucks China Family Forum in Guangzhou. The program invited parents of its employees to make them aware of the former’s culture and values. It was attended by more than 1,200 employees with their respective families

John Culver, who is the head of China and Asia Pacific division of Starbucks, said that it is very essential to include family members of our employees. He added that we took this as an opportunity to show our respect towards the family in Chinese tradition and culture.

According to Jeff Miller, the president of Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) China operations, it is necessary to change the perception of people towards jobs in the service industry. We ought to prove, we are different from other foreign companies operating in China. We are a company with deep culture and traditional values, he added.
