Boston, MA 08/28/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Network device maker Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) had gained the most in the global server market revenue during the second quarter of the current calendar year. There are also three more companies that benefited from the overall 2.5% revenue growth in the worldwide server market in the June quarter.
Cisco Share
The network device manufacturer had recorded 35.4% uptick in revenue to $727 million from $537 million in the year-ago quarter. During the same period, Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) had gained 1.4 percentage points in market share to 5.8% from 4.4% in the year earlier quarter, according to a data published by International Data Corporation.
HP Replaces IBM
However, it was Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) that enjoys the top slot in market share with 25.4% by virtue of $3.19 billion revenue from the worldwide server systems compared to 25.0% share with revenue of $3.07 billion indicating revenue growth of 4.0%. The company had also replaced International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) in the top slot.
Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) also managed to record 3.9% gain in revenue to $737 million from $709 million in the year earlier quarter. This had helped the company to gain market share by ten basis points to 5.9% from 5.8% in the prior year quarter.
Big Decliners
IBM was the worst performer in global server market as it witnessed 10.2% drop in revenue to $2.97 billion from $3.31 billion, and had to settle with a market share of 23.6%, sharply down from 27.0% in the previous year quarter. In the process, it had lost the number one slot to HP. IDC said that the demand for the company’s power-backed systems dropped significantly in advance of a major technology refresh.
Dell too recorded 6.5% fall in revenue to $2.08 billion from $2.23 billion, and its market share slipped to 16.6% from 18.2% in the same quarter last year.
Other Gainers
According to IDC, ODM Direct generated 24.7% more revenue at $835 million than $669 million, and its market share also advanced to 6.6% from 5.5% in the year-ago quarter. Others category also recorded 16.4% revenue uptick to $2.02 billion from $1.74 billion and the market share grew to 16.1% from 14.2%.
Total revenue of global server systems witnessed 2.5% uptick to $12.57 billion from $12.26 billion in the previous year quarter.
