Boston, MA 02/11/2014 (wallstreetpr) – San Jose-based Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) the one-name in internet protocol, networking, communications and Information Technology products, has chosen to settle a troll litigation by Innovatio for – Wi-Fi patents – valued at $2.7 million.
The legal costs for this settlement cost Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) $13 million.
FEYE competes for Internet Protocol Security space
Meanwhile, Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) saw another new player enter the Intrusion Prevention Systems market, valued at $1.9 billion two years ago, by IDC. The new players are Cyber security firm FireEye Inc (NASDAQ:FEYE). The new entrant will offer a range of products, in the next six months, which will prevent computers being compromised by messages as well as infection-causing websites. FEYE is not a new player in risk prevention, but, was until now known as a player only in the small-sized threat analysis and protection niche.
Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) and Palo Alto Networks are two of the market leaders in the IPS segment, along with Intel Corp., Trend Micro Inc. FEYE has been on the path to expansion to the IPS niche with the acquisition of Mandiant Corp valued at $ 1 billion. Mandiant Corp is a known name in Cyber Forensics, besides Security Software for companies. Ever since new CEO Dave DeWalt took over, back in November 2012, the company has grown in size by way of acquiring new products and building a comprehensive platform for end-to-end security solutions. The new entrant will now place FEYE as the anchor for front as well as Center-level security services. FEYE is expected to take on Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) and other of the established players through a series of tools, analysis-related processes based on Mandiant’s software platform.
