Boston, MA 06/10/2014 (wallstreetpr) – The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on June 6, 2014 announced that it was launching the accounts on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). CIA’s first tweet was, “We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet.” This was re-tweeted for more than 75000 times in a few hours time only. In just less than one hour, CIA was followed by 85200 people and had 193 ‘likes’ on Facebook. The number of followers is increasing continuously.
CIA’s Explanation On Having Social Media Accounts
CIA said that the social media accounts created by it would help people in getting information regarding the job postings. The social media accounts of CIA would also help people get a peep into the CIA museum, which according to the agency will be the “best museum most people never get to see.”
CIA Director’s Words
The CIA Director, John Brennan, in his public release, said that by expanding the horizons of the agency to these social platforms, CIA will help in getting direct negotiations and will engage with its public in a better manner.
The Director of the agency further added that the social media accounts will help the agency in engaging with the masses while at the same time provide information on the history, mission and vital developments of the agency. He said that the agency has vital insights to share with the American public and that they wanted to ensure that the unclassified information about CIA was readily accessible to the masses.
Social Media Presence of CIA
CIA is now on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), but it also has its presence on the social media through YouTube and Flickr. The agency said that it was planning to get on these two new social platforms since a long time. Other social offerings by CIA were also in the pipeline, and this includes live streaming via Ustream.
