Boston, MA 04/16/2014 (wallstreetpr) – BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) has confirmed it is investing in IT giant NantHealth as part of its strategy to focus more on the so called “Internet Things” of which it has helped built over the years. The company’s CEO in a statement pointed out that the strategy is part of the company’s effort to tap into the interconnected system that makes up ‘Internet Things’.

BlackBerry to use its Assets and Capabilities

Investing in NantHealth will enable BlackBerry deploy its wide range of assets and capabilities as a way of assisting some of the industry players run more smoothly efficiently and securely. The security giant will assist NantHealth in improving its service to its wide range of patients. Both BlackBerry and NantHealth will work together to develop HIPAA and other integrated clinical systems that are aimed at making the healthcare system more accessible to patients and physicians.

The proposed technology as part of the agreement will use real time connectivity as well as 21st performance computing to ensure services are provided timely and reliably. BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) continues to view the health care industry as a high potential sector, of which it can take huge advantage of patient’s need for privacy.

New Smartphone for healthcare

BlackBerry and NantHealth plan to come up with a new smartphone specifically designed for the healthcare sector to ensure utmost privacy of patient’s data. Blackberry’s head of corporate development and Strategic development has confirmed the device is expected launch later in the year or early next year.

The device will be made available to all, optimized for viewing 3D images, as well as CT scans. It will also have all the features of normal smartphones including apps, games as well as the ability to play movies.
