Boston, MA 01/14/2013 (wallstreetpr) – Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY)’s new CEO John Chen continues his hiring of who he knows to engineer speedy turnaround of the struggling pioneer smartphone company. Mr. Chen’s latest executive hiring is Eric Johnson who comes to head the company’s global sales.
Since taking over the leadership role at Blackberry in November, the chief executive has brought on several of his colleague with whom he worked to save Sybase from collapse. He seems to believe that the strategy which worked for Sybase could be replicated at Blackberry for fast turnaround.
Sybase turnaround
Mr. Chen is best known for his management acumen demonstrated in the novel turnaround of Sybase, a database company with over 20 years in innovation. Chen built a formidable team at Sybase which helped the company to regain its standing in cutting-edge mobile infrastructure, unwired enterprise and software development and integration. Today Sybase, though agreed to a marriage with SAP AG, runs the world’s most critical data for governments, finance institutions, healthcare and commerce.
There is a semblance between what Sybase is today and what Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) wants to be and this means that the team that helped engineer Sybase back to solid standing in database industry will be well at home working to entrench BBRY as a leader in secure mobile communication for governments and corporations.
Without a doubt, Mr. Chen is keen in building a leadership team that was experience working together to drive change in Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) at a faster pace. And there are numerous pointers to potential success in this approach.
That Mr. Chen is bringing on Johnson to lead global sales team answers the CEO’s intent to expand Blackberry’s government and corporation business deals beyond its present cliental base. The CEO announced in Las Vegas at the CES last week that Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) will be building a security center in Washington DC as part of expansion of its governments collaboration for the provision of secure mobile communication platform.
The newly hired ex-Sybase executive Johnson will report directly to Mr. Chen. Mr. Johnson’s experience in marketing, enterprise sales teams management and acquisition will benefit Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) in its efforts to regain standing in secure mobile communication solutions.
