Boston, MA 06/10/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Ballard Power Systems Inc. (USA) (NASDAQ:BLDP) powered two new fuel cell buses which were deployed by SunLine Transit Agency and BAE Systems and ElDorado National.
Ballard Power Systems Inc. (USA) (NASDAQ:BLDP) congratulated the two companies on the unveiling and delivery of the buses, both of which were powered by the company’s FCvelocity®-HD6 fuel cell module. The Thousand Palms, CA based SunLine is a leading agency in the deployment of new and clean transportation technologies in the U.S. and it highlights the company’s long standing tradition with its latest installation.
Ballard Power Systems Inc. (USA) (NASDAQ:BLDP)’s Chief Commercial Officer, Steve Karaffa, said that the company is honored to further its partnership with SunLine Transit, which is a unique and innovative transportation agency and is a leader when it comes to the deployment of zero emission transit technology.
Ballard’s Module
The new buses are a modification of the prior installed American Fuel Cell Bus, commonly abbreviated as AFCB, configuration. The first to deploy the AFCB configuration was the SunLine Transit Agency in 2011. It uses Ballard’s FCvelocity®-HD6 fuel cell module to supply the preliminary power, along with BAE Systems’ HybriDrive® power and propulsion management systems, which are deployed in the heavy duty transport bus, ElDorado National, which is a 40 foot that is 12 meter Axess model. Ballard’s 150 KW power modules is featured with a control unit which has the capacity to interface with a system controller, allowing it to act as a “plug-and-play” system for hybrid fuel cell or any fuel cell bus platform.
Ballard Power Systems Inc. (USA) (NASDAQ:BLDP) and SunLine Transit Agency had extended their partnership in 2013 whereby the bus operations would be supported for a stretched period of ten years. With the addition of these two buses, the Agency’s total number of Ballard powered fuel cell buses increases to four. This shows the Agency’s dedication to continue operating these buses.
