Boston, MA 05/19/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Tata Motors Limited (ADR) (NYSE:TTM) continues to be a source of bad market news. The company that recently dropped ranking among vehicle manufacturers in India had little to show for its global April sales performance save for the fact that the company hopes to have a better April next year.
The company reported that its global April sales declined 7.65 percent. It made 75,026-unit sales in April, in the global scale. In April last year, Tata sold 81,241 units.
Commercial vehicles cause trouble
The April sales decline in the global scale suffered due to the big drop in sales in the commercial vehicles category. However, the other categories held up nicely in the month on a year-over-year basis. Commercial vehicles category sales dropped 32.31 percent in the latest month of April to 27,054 units, down from 39,969 units in the same month last year.
Away from the commercial vehicle sales decline, Tata Motors Limited (ADR) (NYSE:TTM) saw its passenger vehicle category up 16.23 percent to 47,972 units, against 41,272 units sold in the same period last year. The same uptrend in sale was witnessed in the luxury vehicle category that includes Jaguar Land Rover. The company was sales in the category up 39 percent to 40,137 units, up from 28,874 units in April 2013.
The way forward
Tata Motors Limited (ADR) (NYSE:TTM) looks to reclaim a position among the top car makers. The company’s board approved a wide range of products that include electric, hybrid and alternative fuel technology vehicles that the company will launch alongside its conventional brands.
Tata, the company that fell to No. 4 four down from No. 3 among the largest car manufacturers by volume in India, said it has made improvements in its manufacturing process that include quality, capacity and faster product development that it expects to support its sales and ranking. The company saw its 2013-14 sales down 38.64 percent to 1 million units, compared with 1.7 million units sold in the previous fiscal year. As such, it fell behind Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Honda among volume manufacturers.
