Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (NYSE:ANR)’s Affiliate Alex Recognized For Reforestation Activities By ARRI

Boston, MA 05/30/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (NYSE:ANR) is one of the prominent names in the cola supply in the U.S. The largest and diversified coal provider, supplies coal for steel industry and power generation, across five continents in the world. The company on May 28, 2014 announced that its affiliate was recognized for an award for reforestation projects.

Recognized by ARRI:

Alex Energy, the affiliate of one of the largest U.S. based Coal Company; Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (NYSE:ANR) was recognized for the reforestation projects by ARRI (Appalachian Regional Reforestation initiatives) on May 28, 2014. The organization recognized the reforestation activities in the Whitman Surface Mine or commonly known as track fork surface mine.

The award:

The award was presented during a ceremony by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement on May 23, 2014 in Holden.

Meeting ARRI’s Forestry Reclamation Approach:

The reforestation activity at the mine located at Logan country, W.Va. was commenced in the year 2007. The restoration of the affiliate of Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (NYSE:ANR) strictly followed the ARRI’s Forestry Reclamation Approach. The activities developed the approach which includes planting of trees at its native region, mixtures in order to maximize the tree survivability rate and proper land preparation. Alex has planted almost 100,000 seedlings across 150 acres of the Whitman mine, comprising of 22 different species of trees and a survival rate of 85-90%.

The president thanked ARRI for recognizing the effort of the company towards the work and congratulated Alex Energy team for such impressive work in Whitman.

It should be mentioned that the company’s other affiliates recently received awards from ‘West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection’ for reforestation and restoration activities in various sites. It’s a good sign for Alpha and its affiliates to boost up the environmental protection issues.
