The company has had only two CEOs so far as the history of the company goes- the co-founder Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. Ballmer had been associated with the company since 2000 and plans to retire in August next year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Board of Directors has sought the advice of a few Silicon Valley veterans including Charles Giancarlo. Currently the board is screening candidates in the course of interviews. Some of the candidates declined to be identified due to the privacy of the matter and yet some like the CEO of Ebay Inc, John Donahoe refused to be considered for the offer. Among others are the CEO of Ford Mototr Co., Alan Mulally and the CEO of Nokia Oyj, Stephen Elop. The two will be joining Microsoft post the $7.2 billion possession of Nokia mobiles unit. Paul Maritz, the former Microsoft No.3 executive and Tony Bates, chief of Microsoft Business Development and Evangelism have also been spoken with.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the company says that the exact time of appointment and finalizing a CEO will depend on a variety of factors. Compensation being a criterion for the chosen candidate, the recruitment will also depend on the termination of service period at their current working place, in case of an external recruitment. The present CEO, Ballmer is refurbishing with great efficiency the company\u2019s approach towards products and services. It is desirable of the new recruit to carry on from where Ballmer would leave with similar competiveness. In addition, he must also be capable enough to manage the business integrated with Nokia\u2019s phone business.
