King Charles III has returned to public-facing royal duties for the first time since Buckingham Palace announced his cancer diagnosis in February.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the 75-year-old visited the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre\u00a0<\/strong>where he met\u00a0with medical specialists and patients.\u00a0The British monarch\u00a0was joined\u00a0by his wife, Queen\u00a0Camilla.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival, the duo waved and greeted bystanders before entering the medical facility. At one point, the king greeted a young admirer who welcomed him with a small bouquet of flowers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0understood\u00a0that the cancer center has not\u00a0been directly involved\u00a0with the\u00a0king\u2019s\u00a0medical care, People magazine<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

“It is very reassuring to see the King return to his official duties –\u00a0he’s\u00a0been demanding that his doctors give him the go-ahead for weeks now,”\u00a0Christopher Andersen, author of\u00a0“The King,”<\/a>\u00a0told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n

“Not to throw cold water on the moment, but\u00a0it’s\u00a0clear the palace wants a positive and hopeful message to offset all the alarming speculation about His\u00a0Majesty’s\u00a0prognosis,”\u00a0Andersen added.<\/p>\n

“King Charles\u00a0was held\u00a0back from going out and about by both his doctors and courtiers,”\u00a0British royals expert Hilary Fordwich<\/a> told Fox News Digital.\u00a0“It\u2019s\u00a0appropriate to visit a cancer center as his first returning official duty, drawing a spotlight on the disease.”<\/p>\n

In a statement previously obtained by Fox News Digital, the palace announced that the visit\u00a0“will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.”<\/p>\n

Another upcoming event is scheduled for June when Charles and Camilla will host the Emperor and Empress of Japan for a state visit.<\/p>\n

“As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year,”\u00a0the statement concluded.<\/p>\n

The news came after the monarch took a three-month break following his cancer diagnosis.<\/a><\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the palace explained to Fox News Digital that while Charles is well enough to resume his duties,\u00a0he’s\u00a0still receiving treatment for his cancer.<\/p>\n

“His\u00a0Majesty\u2019s\u00a0treatment programme will continue, but doctors are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far that The King\u00a0is now able to\u00a0resume a number of public-facing duties. Forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary to minimise\u00a0any\u00a0risks to His\u00a0Majesty\u2019s\u00a0continued recovery,”\u00a0the palace said.<\/p>\n

“His Majesty is greatly encouraged to be resuming some public-facing duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise,”\u00a0said a spokesperson.<\/p>\n

The palace added that\u00a0it’s\u00a0“too early to say”\u00a0how long the\u00a0king’s\u00a0treatment may continue,\u00a0“but His\u00a0Majesty\u2019s\u00a0medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about The\u00a0King\u2019s\u00a0continued recovery.”<\/p>\n

Charles was diagnosed with a form of cancer and is undergoing treatment, Buckingham Palace announced in February. A\u00a0“separate issue of concern”\u00a0was identified during\u00a0Charles’\u00a0“benign prostate enlargement”<\/a> procedure at the London Clinic.<\/p>\n

“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,”\u00a0the palace said in a statement at the time.<\/p>\n

Less than 18 months into his reign, the monarch suspended public engagements. He continued with state business and\u00a0didn’t\u00a0hand over\u00a0his constitutional role as head of state.<\/p>\n

The palace added\u00a0that the king\u00a0“has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”<\/p>\n

Charles became king in September 2022 when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died at\u00a0the age of\u00a096 after 70 years on the throne.<\/p>\n

In a video shared in March, Kate Middleton revealed that she, too, is battling a form of\u00a0cancer,\u00a0and has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment.<\/p>\n

The Princess of Wales, 42,\u00a0is still taking a break from royal duties as she recovers. Her husband, Prince William,\u00a0who is\u00a0heir to the throne,<\/a>\u00a0took time off to look after their three children. The eldest son of the king has since resumed royal duties.<\/p>\n
