Tennessee authorities<\/a> have issued a Blue Alert for a man wanted for allegedly shooting two police officers outside a Dollar General on Saturday.<\/p>\n

John C. Drake, Jr., 38, is wanted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and a Blue Alert, which notifies the public about a suspect sought for killing or seriously injuring an officer, has been issued, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.<\/p>\n

The suspect has been identified as the son of Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake.<\/p>\n

“I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn that my estranged son, with whom I have had very minimal contact over many years, is the suspect in this afternoon\u2019s shooting of the two La Vergne police officers,” the elder Drake said in a statement. “My thoughts and prayers are with the two officers, who I understand are now in stable condition at Vanderbilt.”<\/p>\n

SON OF NASHVILLE POLICE CHIEF SOUGHT IN SHOOTING OF 2 TENNESSEE OFFICERS: OFFICIALS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

La Vergne Police Chief Chris Moews said at a press conference that officers were investigating<\/a> a stolen vehicle when Drake, Jr. pulled out a handgun and opened fire outside the Dollar General.<\/p>\n

The officers “had contact with a subject. They struggled with that subject and that suspect produced a handgun and fired shots,” Moews said.<\/p>\n

One of the officers suffered a gunshot wound to his rear left shoulder while the other was shot in the right groin and right forearm. Both officers are listed in stable condition.<\/p>\n

“Despite my efforts and guidance in the early and teenage years, my son, John Drake Jr., now 38-years-old, resorted to years of criminal activity and is a convicted felon,” Drake, Sr. added in his statement. “He has not been a part of my life for quite some time. He now needs to be found and held accountable for his actions today. I hope that anyone who sees him or has information about him will contact law enforcement immediately.”<\/p>\n

Moews said the suspect is 5-foot-11 with a muscular build, facial hair and dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a white hockey mask emblem on the front with red lettering and gray pants.<\/p>\n

The suspect was last seen driving northbound on Stones River Road in La Vergne.<\/p>\n

Drake, Jr. is considered armed and dangerous, La Vergne Police and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation wrote on social media Saturday evening. A shelter in place order that had been in effect for the Lake Forest community was lifted at around midnight.<\/p>\n

“The shelter in place order has been lifted at this time,” La Vergne Police<\/a> wrote on Facebook. “There is no immediate threat to the public. We are continuing our search efforts but ask everyone to remain vigilant. If you see something, say something.”<\/p>\n
