A U.S.-born sergeant major\u00a0in the Israeli Defense Forces’ Special Operations Engineering Unit said Monday that the military is focused on preserving life and limiting the number of casualties among both Israelis and Palestinians after Israel postponed its planned ground invasion<\/a> into Gaza.<\/p>\n

Israel has warned citizens of northern Gaza \u2013 the Palestinian territory governed by the terrorist group Hamas \u2013 to evacuate as the military continues its response to the Hamas attack that slaughtered Israeli civilians<\/a> and took an estimated 150 to 200 hostages last week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

REMEMBERING US VICTIMS KILLED AND MISSING IN THE ISRAELI-HAMAS WAR<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The delay of its operation was ostensibly due to rain and low cloud cover in the region and has been postponed, Chaim Malespin, who is currently serving in Israel’s Yahalom unit, said on “America Reports” on Monday.<\/p>\n

“I did hear word that the major entrance to dismantle Hamas is\u00a0delayed for a few more days,” Malespin told FOX News anchor John Roberts. “Of course, you know there\u00a0are missions going on that we\u00a0don\u2019t talk about, but the big one is supposed to\u00a0be in a few days, not tonight.”<\/p>\n

“We are all ready,\u00a0we are trained, we are prepared,” he added. “We don\u2019t want to be here. We have families, I have three\u00a0little kids.\u00a0I made my immigration from America\u00a025 years ago here, Jewish\u00a0family, but we have to defend\u00a0our kids, we have to secure our\u00a0borders and yes, we are\u00a0doing our part.”<\/p>\n

Malespin said his elite combat unit, which specializes in confidential rescue operations and other military activities that are hidden from the public, is bracing for significant danger as they prepare for booby traps and the potential of “Russian-supplied mega bombs” at the entrance of Gaza’s underground tunnel systems.<\/p>\n

But, he said, Israel’s special forces are working around the clock to make the operation as precise as they can.<\/p>\n

“I can say I\u2019ve been in many\u00a0tunnels, having done this times in many,\u00a0many wars and missions including\u00a0in Lebanon in 2006\u2026 our unit knows\u00a0that the risks are real,” he said. “Tom Cruise in ‘Mission Impossible’ would have a very\u00a0hard time getting through the\u00a0tunnel threat.\u00a0It\u2019s intricate, it’s elaborate, all booby-trapped, there are concerns that\u00a0Russian-supplied mega bombs may\u00a0be awaiting under the ground\u00a0even before we get to the\u00a0tunnel.\u00a0So there\u2019s a lot of speculation.\u00a0I can\u2019t give exact information. We are doing our absolute best\u00a0with the top precision,”<\/p>\n

“Now\u00a0it\u2019s time to show these\u00a0criminals, these grotesque\u00a0terrorists that terror is not going to continue,” Malespin added. “Our families will be safe and\u00a0security will be restored.”<\/p>\n

Asked about Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s accusation<\/a> that Israel has surpassed its self-defense response and is now engaged in collective punishment of the Palestinian people, Malespin replied pointedly, “We didn’t want a war.”<\/p>\n

“I would say to all people who love\u00a0freedom, to all patriots out\u00a0there, we didn\u2019t want a war, it was a peace\u00a0festival for crying out loud,” he said. “To see\u00a0people kidnapped, 199 of them, it\u2019s probably\u00a0more, and raped and murdered.\u00a0It\u2019s about dismantling an organization that\u2019s\u00a0bad, Hamas is bad for their own\u00a0people, and rescuing the\u00a0Palestinians from that.”<\/p>\n

“Here is the thing,” he continued. “We have to\u00a0recognize\u2026\u00a0I think that people who have\u00a0not had enemies at their door for a\u00a0long time fell asleep, they forgot what it is to have enemies and so when you\u00a0have a real enemy you need to\u00a0address that, you need to stand\u00a0up\u2026and so that\u2019s what we are doing.”<\/p>\n

Malespin said Israel’s focus will be on rescuing the hostages and limiting the amount of casualties in combat, adding that the IDF provides soldiers with specific training as part of their “purity of arms” program to avoid collateral damage.<\/p>\n

“It’s a training\u00a0to minimize the amount of casualties and [includes] calls [to Palestinians] saying\u00a0please get away from the\u00a0terrorists and let us do our\u00a0job, and yes, Egypt will open\u00a0up \u2014 and they will let them\u00a0come through, and we are excited\u00a0about that, they will get out of harm\u2019s\u00a0way.\u00a0We don\u2019t want collateral damage,\u00a0we don\u2019t want any civilian\u00a0injuries, it\u2019s not our way,” he said, “Because we are defenders,\u00a0[We are the] Israeli Defense Force, just here\u00a0to defend the homeland.”<\/p>\n

“People don\u2019t want to be here,”\u00a0he reiterated, “But we have to.”<\/p>\n

Malespin referenced a passage from Ezekiel 34, which discusses the importance of shepherds of Israel looking after their scattered flock and rescuing them from places they were stranded in before they are united in their own land.<\/p>\n

“It talks about good\u00a0shepherds who go and rescue the sheep. You can\u2019t\u00a0let your home be overrun.\u00a0You have to respond and finish this\u00a0dismantling [of] Hamas,” he said. “\u2026When you\u00a0have a real enemy you need to\u00a0address that, you need to stand\u00a0up and be a good shepherd\u00a0yourself.\u00a0And so that\u2019s what we are doing.”<\/p>\n
