Two years ago, I\u00a0warned against<\/a>\u00a0the risk\u00a0a hurried withdrawal from Afghanistan would cause. Now,\u00a0the consequences of a Taliban takeover\u00a0are a reality.<\/p>\n

Even\u00a0against the advice\u00a0of his own military advisors, President Biden doubled down on a rushed process to meet his arbitrary exit deadline, resulting in the greatest U.S. foreign policy disaster<\/a> of my lifetime.<\/p>\n

By abandoning Americans and our allies, emboldening our adversaries, and making the world a less safe place, President Biden\u00a0sent a signal of weakness to our friends and foes.<\/p>\n

After two years, the devastating impact of Biden\u2019s failed Afghanistan withdrawal is still felt at home and abroad. And there is only one answer: we must restore America\u2019s leadership and standing on the world stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Biden\u2019s Afghanistan appeasement<\/a> caused a domino effect around the globe.<\/p>\n

AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL: A POLITICAL TURNING POINT FOR WAY PUBLIC FELT ABOUT BIDEN<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Russia invaded Ukraine. China encroached on our own sovereign air space with their\u00a0spy balloon<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0continues\u00a0their malign spying only 90 miles from our shores. Iran has\u00a0increased\u00a0its efforts to build a bomb and\u00a0ramped up\u00a0illicit oil sales to fund its terrorist activities. North Korea has\u00a0increased\u00a0its intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities. And China and Russia are\u00a0conducting\u00a0joint naval exercises near Alaska.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Women and girls who were just starting to enjoy their freedoms are again faced with oppression and subjugation by a ruthless\u00a0Taliban regime<\/a>. President Biden\u00a0promised\u00a0to hold the Taliban accountable to uphold women\u2019s rights. However,\u00a0since the\u00a0Taliban takeover, Afghanistan has become the most repressive in the world for women and girls. And make no mistake, folks, this did not have to happen.<\/p>\n

Our future partners will struggle to trust the United States with Biden\u2019s track record of broken promises.<\/p>\n

I firmly believe the United States of America is\u00a0the greatest<\/i>\u00a0country in the world, and that is due to the brave men and women who serve and sacrifice to protect the freedoms we too often take for granted. What happened two years ago in Afghanistan was a disgrace to our servicemembers, and to those countless patriots who served, like I did, in the Global War on Terrorism. We were let down by our commander-in-chief.<\/p>\n

As the world watched the chaos, the U.S. Armed Forces \u2013 who once freed the nation from the terrorist regime<\/a> \u2013 experienced the desperate abandonment of American citizens and their longtime Afghan partners. Under President Biden\u2019s command, one of the deadliest days for U.S. forces during the 20-year conflict occurred when a terrorist attack claimed the lives of 13 of our servicemembers assisting with the evacuation.<\/p>\n

Marine Corporal Daegan William-Tyeler Page, from my home community of Montgomery County, Iowa<\/a>, was one of those killed in action on that fateful day. And while we continue to mourn his loss of life, I will always believe Cpl. Page and his brothers and sisters in arms truly represent the greatness of our nation.<\/p>\n

These military and Gold Star families\u00a0do not simply just get<\/a>\u00a0over this. Their\u00a0voices\u00a0will continue to be heard as we honor their loved ones who paid the ultimate price for our freedom, and as we seek accountability for their deaths.<\/p>\n

What happened in Afghanistan<\/a> should always serve as a stark reminder that what takes place on the other side of the world directly impacts our safety here at home.\u00a0When America is strong \u2013 the world is safer. But the moment we retreat and abdicate our authority, our adversaries fill the void.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While our enemies\u00a0celebrate\u00a0the anniversary of our “defeat,” Americans should wake up and realize the urgent need to end Joe Biden\u2019s posture of weakness <\/a>and appeasement.\u00a0For the safety and security of our homeland, and to restore faith to our military community, we need new, strong leadership at\u00a01600 Pennsylvania Avenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n
