The man charged in Treat Williams\u2019 fatal car accident<\/a> says he knew the late actor and considered him a friend.<\/p>\n

Ryan Koss, who had been notified earlier this week he was charged with grossly negligent operation resulting in death, released a statement Friday.<\/p>\n

He said he was devastated by Williams\u2019 death and offered his “sincerest condolences” to the actor\u2019s family.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I considered him a friend,” Koss said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Koss, the managing creative director of the Dorset Theatre Festival in Vermont, said he knew Williams for years as a member of the tight-knit community, as well as a fellow theater member.<\/p>\n

A Vermont State Police investigation concluded Koss\u2019 vehicle pulled in front of Williams\u2019 motorcycle on June 12 in Dorset. Williams was flung from his bike and later pronounced dead at the Albany Medical Center.<\/p>\n

Koss said in his statement he\u2019s “confident the facts will show I obeyed all relevant traffic laws, and the state\u2019s charges are unwarranted.”<\/p>\n

His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 25.<\/p>\n

A cause of death was recently determined, with the medical examiner’s office saying Williams died<\/a> after sustaining severe trauma and blood loss.<\/p>\n

Williams, 71, is\u00a0survived by his wife\u00a0Pamela Van Sant and two children, daughter Elinor and son Gill.<\/p>\n

When the news of his death broke, tributes from around Hollywood poured in for the actor, who had a career spanning 50 years and more than 120 credits to his name.<\/p>\n

Stars like Emily VanCamp, Matt Bomer and Kim Cattrall shared fond memories of the actor.<\/p>\n

His “Hair” co-star Beverly D\u2019Angelo wrote, “Such a beautiful friendship\u2026 I hope you hear everyone singing your praises Treat, I will miss you. I cry for you. Fly.”<\/p>\n

And last month, Elinor shared a touching tribute<\/a> to her father.<\/p>\n

“I have never experienced this kind of grief before, so it\u2019s hard to put my thoughts into words, but I\u2019ll try my best for now,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

“I have been home with my family in Vermont for a month now, but it feels like just yesterday that I frantically got on a plane home after I got that phone call. It feels like he\u2019s just away filming. However, I keep forgetting that he\u2019s not coming home this time.”<\/p>\n
