There is no evidence that Rudolph “Rudy” Farias<\/a>, who reportedly vanished in 2015 as a teenager, was ever missing or was a victim of abuse, Houston police said Thursday at a press conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was the latest twist in a bizarre saga that has included claims Farias has been missing for eight years and that his mother, Janie Santana, allegedly drugged him, forced him to “play daddy” and sleep in the same bed with her.<\/p>\n

“Based on Rudy’s interview, there were no reports of sexual abuse,” Lt. Christopher Zamora, flanked by Houston Police Chief Troy Finner and Sgt. Stephen Jimenez, told reporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that the investigation was ongoing. Farias, now 25, was found outside a church in southeast Houston last Thursday more than eight years after his mother reported him missing<\/a> on March 7, 2015, when he was 17, Zamora said.<\/p>\n

The stunning development was hailed as a “miracle” by a missing persons organization and the feel-good story quickly went viral.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But neighbors were scratching their heads wondering how Farias could be missing when they had regularly interacted with him for years in the same neighborhood he’d purportedly vanished from, according to FOX26.<\/a><\/p>\n

Investigators determined that Farias was never missing and had actually returned home one day after his mother made the report, Zamora said.<\/p>\n

Police interviewed him and his mother, Janie Santana, Wednesday in the presence of community activist Quanell X.<\/p>\n

Farias, outside the earshot of his mother, allegedly made shocking abuse allegations to a detective and Quanell X, according to the activist.<\/a><\/p>\n

“I heard horrific things from that young man,” Quanell X said. “No child, no child should ever be treated like that by his own mother.”<\/p>\n

Farias alleged his mother kept him heavily drugged and locked up in their home and sexually abused him.<\/p>\n

“She would ask him to play daddy, she told him that he had to be the husband,” the activist told reporters.”I never heard of a mother doing to a child what this woman did.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jimenez, who interviewed Farias, said at the press conference that he was “trained to listen for probable cause” and that there were no statements made alleging abuse.<\/p>\n

Police determined that Farias and his mother had multiple interactions with the Houston Police Department over the years.<\/p>\n

“However, during these contacts, fictitious names and dates of birth were given and Rudy would remain missing<\/a>,” Zamora said. “In fact, both Janie, Rudy\u2019s mother, and Rudy himself gave fictitious names while interacting with various patrol officers.”<\/p>\n

Zamora added that Santana “continued to deceive police by remaining adamant that Rudy was still missing,” alleging her nephew was the person friends and family saw coming and going from the house.<\/p>\n

“Currently the DA has declined any charges at this time for making fictitious reports and failure to ID,” Zamora told reporters, referring to the alleged misdemeanors they had committed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In another peculiar turn, police revealed that Farias chose to return home with his mother to the astonishment of several reporters.<\/p>\n

“Here’s the fact, he’s a grown man,” Finner said. “Seventeen years old, that is an adult in the state of Texas<\/a>,” he added of Farias’ age when he was reported missing.<\/p>\n

Although Santana and her son have not been charged, Zamora said police could still present their case to the district attorney<\/a> after wrapping up their investigation.<\/p>\n

A reporter asked the Houston police chief why the mother-son duo would lie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We cannot predict motivation,” Finner replied.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
