Kelly Clarkson said her kids are still “adamant about keeping the dream alive” of her getting back together with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock<\/a> even after three years apart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Anytime there\u2019s mention of him maybe being with somebody else they are just really adamant about keeping that dream alive that we might still be together \u2014 and we are never around each other,” the “Stronger” singer told Glennon Doyle on her podcast, “We Can do Hard Things,” Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clarkson said it\u2019s hard whether you decide to stay in a difficult relationship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But while she felt ending her relationship with her children\u2019s father was difficult, she revealed, “I\u2019m a better mother, like, after [the divorce]. I\u2019m a far better mother because I think when you\u2019re honest with yourself, you\u2019re able to be honest with others. But sometimes you don\u2019t know you\u2019re lying to yourself.<\/p>\n

“Love is tricky. It really convinces you that you\u2019re doing the right thing. It\u2019s just a really hard thing when you love someone so deeply to have the right answer.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clarkson and producer Brandon Blackstock married in 2013, and she filed for divorce<\/a> in 2020. They share two children \u2014 River Rose, 8, and Remy, 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n

HOLLYWOOD’S SURPRISING TAKE ON DIVORCE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The 41-year-old said she doesn\u2019t always know how to talk to her kids about her divorce with Blackstock<\/a> because they have their own “separate relationship” with their father.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m like, \u2018I can\u2019t give you that whole story,'” she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

River Rose, 8,<\/a> is “very smart” and “inquisitive” and “catches everything,” Clarkson told Doyle, adding, “I cannot leave a hint of sarcasm on the floor. I can\u2019t do anything. I have to be so on top of it.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Doyle revealed when her daughter was young she realized she had been staying with her ex with the intention of “good mothering when really it\u2019s bad modeling” because she wouldn\u2019t want her relationship for her daughter.<\/p>\n

Clarkson said even as a child she remembered seeing red flags in her own mother\u2019s relationships<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Even watching my mother in two different marriages, there\u2019s things you pick up on even as a kid that you\u2019re like, \u2018This is unhealthy,\u2019 right?” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She added that she was on the “fence” for a long time in her marriage with Blackstock.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The tug of, like, loving someone so deeply and the tug of, like, really needing to love yourself as much or more, and it was like, \u2018I just don\u2019t know if I can do this<\/i> while still trying to do this<\/i> anymore,\u2019” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite her divorce, Clarkson revealed she still believes people can change and doesn\u2019t like to give up on people. She said this was instilled in her by her faith when she was young after a pastor became like a father figure to her when she didn\u2019t have one.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“So, for a person that hasn\u2019t experienced that kind of love to be shown that, and you change, so that\u2019s why I believe in it,” she explained of her optimism.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s a beautiful thing to see potential in people, and it\u2019s also a beautiful thing to like not give up.”\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
