A third man was charged Tuesday in the shooting death of a member of hip hop group Run-DMC<\/a> more than 20 years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Prosecutors filed an indictment against Jay Bryant, 49, for the Oct. 30, 2002, shooting death of Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell in his Queens studio, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York told Fox News Digital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2020, two other suspects<\/a>,\u00a0Ronald Washington\u00a0and Karl Jordan Jr., were arrested in his death in what prosecutors called a drug deal gone wrong.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bryant was seen entering Mizell\u2019s studio that night, and his DNA was found at the scene, prosecutors said Tuesday in court documents. He is already in custody on unrelated federal drug charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said all three men entered the studio before the shooting and fled after, according to court documents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bryant’s attorney, C\u00e9sar de Castro, told The Associated Press in an email they had just learned of the charges.<\/p>\n

“Securing an indictment in a secret grand jury, applying an extremely low burden of proof, is one thing. Proving it at trial is another matter,” de Castro said.<\/p>\n

Mizell was a founding member of Run-DMC, which was formed in 1983, and whose hits include “It\u2019s Tricky,” “King of Rock” and a cover of Aerosmith\u2019s “Walk this Way.”<\/a><\/p>\n

Jay formed Run-DMC with Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniel.”<\/p>\n

For years, Jay’s death lingered as a cold case<\/a> with witnesses reluctant to speak up despite reward money being offered.<\/p>\n
