Twitter CEO and tech billionaire Elon Musk<\/a> told Tucker Carlson that AI will likely have a “significant influence” on future elections, and called on the U.S. government to establish some level of oversight to sensibly regulate the rapidly emerging technology.<\/p>\n

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who has been outspoken about his concerns with AI and the dangers associated with it, said earlier in his conversation with Carlson that he fears AI could lead to “civilizational destruction” if mismanaged.<\/p>\n

Asked how he thinks the new technology will impact democracy in the future, Musk told Carlson, “Well, that\u2019s why I raised the\u00a0concern of AI being a\u00a0significant influence in\u00a0elections.<\/p>\n

\u00a0“Even if you say that AI doesn\u2019t\u00a0have agency, well it\u2019s very\u00a0likely that people will use the\u00a0AI as a tool in elections.\u00a0And then, you know, if AI’s smart enough, are they using the\u00a0tool or is the tool using them?\u00a0So I think things are getting\u00a0weird, and they\u2019re getting weird\u00a0fast,” he told the Fox News host in part two of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” interview that aired Tuesday.<\/p>\n

In part one of the “Tucker Carlson Tonight” interview on Monday, Musk revealed his plans to develop his own artificial intelligence chatbot, “TruthGPT.” to\u00a0counter bias from ChatGPT and other AI chatbots. Musk said he fears slanted or ideological programmers will use AI technology to “lie” and spread falsehoods without consequence.<\/p>\n

“What’s happening is they’re training the AI to lie. It’s bad,” he told Carlson. “AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production,” he explained. “In the sense that it has the potential, however, small one may regard that probability, but it is non-trivial, it has the potential of civilization destruction.”<\/p>\n

\u2018IT PRESUMES TO REPLACE US:\u2019 CONCERNS OF BIAS IN AI GROW AFTER ELON MUSK ISSUES NEW WARNING<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Musk said that without government oversight regulating the rapidly developing software, AI could quickly become a “danger to the public” and pose a real threat to the future of mankind.<\/a><\/p>\n

“It‘<\/u><\/strong>s already past the\u00a0point of what most humans can\u00a0do,”\u00a0he told Carlson. “Most humans cannot write as well\u00a0as ChatGPT and certainly no human can\u00a0write that well that fast, to\u00a0the best of my knowledge.\u00a0Maybe Shakespeare”<\/p>\n

Pundits and others have suggested blowing up AI server farms as a last resort if the technology surpasses human control. Musk said he agrees that the U.S. government should have a contingency in place to power down server farms in the event of an emergency, but offered a more subtle solution.<\/p>\n

“I’m not suggesting we blow up the server centers right\u00a0now but there may be some \u2013 it\u00a0may be wise to have some sort of\u00a0contingency plan where the\u00a0government\u2019s got an ability to\u00a0shut down power to\u00a0these service centers.\u00a0Like you don\u2019t have to blow it\u00a0up, you can just cut the power,” he told Carlson.<\/p>\n

If “the\u00a0administrator passwords, if they\u00a0somehow stopped working, where\u00a0we can\u2019t slow down or you\u00a0know \u2013 I don\u2019t have a precise\u00a0answer,” he added. “But if it\u2019s something\u00a0that we\u2019re concerned about and\u00a0are unable to stop it with\u00a0software commands, then we\u00a0probably want to have some kind\u00a0of hardware off switch.”<\/p>\n
