{"id":58974,"date":"2023-03-13T16:53:15","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T20:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cablemanpro.com\/wallstreetpr\/nyc-bike-path-attacker-to-spend-life-in-prison-after-jury-fails-to-reach-unanimous-verdict-on-death-penalty-58974"},"modified":"2023-03-13T16:53:15","modified_gmt":"2023-03-13T20:53:15","slug":"nyc-bike-path-attacker-to-spend-life-in-prison-after-jury-fails-to-reach-unanimous-verdict-on-death-penalty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cablemanpro.com\/wallstreetpr\/nyc-bike-path-attacker-to-spend-life-in-prison-after-jury-fails-to-reach-unanimous-verdict-on-death-penalty-58974","title":{"rendered":"NYC bike path attacker to spend life in prison after jury fails to reach unanimous verdict on death penalty"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The convicted murderer who killed eight people and wounded 11 others by speeding down a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/new-york-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bike path in Manhattan<\/a> six years ago will spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on the death penalty Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sayfullo Saipov, a citizen of Uzbekistan who admitted to FBI agents that he carried out the attack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/world\/terrorism\/isis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on behalf of ISIS<\/a> on Oct. 31, 2017, was convicted in January of 28 counts, including murder and supporting a terrorist organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The jury, which was made up of nine men and three women, deliberated for nine hours over two days before informing the judge on Monday that they could not reach a unanimous decision in the penalty phase of Saipov&#8217;s trial.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His defense attorney, David Patton, argued that &#8220;meeting death with more death is not the answer,&#8221; telling jurors that Saipov will be sentenced to one of the most &#8220;isolated, solitary&#8221; facilities in America in Florence, Colorado.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/dramatic-new-video-shows-moments-before-nyc-truck-attack-driver-sayfullo-saipov-shot-police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>DRAMATIC NEW VIDEO SHOWS MOMENTS BEFORE NYC TRUCK ATTACK DRIVER SAYFULLO SAIPOV IS SHOT BY POLICE<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors, meanwhile, told the jury that Saipov is &#8220;a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/world\/terrorism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>proud terrorist<\/u><\/a>&#8221; who has shown no remorse for his crimes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He chose to come to this country and fight for an enemy,&#8221; Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Houle told jurors. &#8220;And it is his choices that call for the most significant punishment that the law provides: the sentence of death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/us-regions\/northeast\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York has<\/a> not executed an inmate for a federal crime in nearly 70 years.
