No one does fearmongering quite like Washington.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Progressive lawmakers in our nation’s capital are constantly\u00a0screaming about\u00a0the horrors of\u00a0CO2\u00a0and methane. They find gas and oil environmental boogeymen under every bed and in every closet when it comes to gas and oil. <\/p>\n

Yet when it comes to releasing tons of actual\u00a0hazardous chemicals<\/a> —\u00a0vinyl chloride,\u00a0ethylhexyl\u00a0acrylate, and ethylene glycol,\u00a0to be precise — over entire regions under the plum of an actual mushroom cloud (by virtue of a so-called\u00a0controlled release),\u00a0what do our leaders have to say? <\/p>\n

Well, basically, that there is nothing to see here. We are monitoring the situation and so far, all is good.\u00a0<\/p>\n

OHIO TRAIN DERAILMENT: OFFICIALS INSIST EAST PALESTINE IS SAFE BUT RESIDENTS AREN’T BUYING IT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Under the best of situations, we would all be well off to be skeptical of Washington bureaucrats <\/a>telling us that we need not worry about the massive burning chemical plum of toxins rising above our neighborhoods, but these are not normal times.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We are faced with an administration that tells us that the sky is falling\u00a0every day. They tell us that we are going to drown in rising seas and that nearly every storm is because of our insistence on burning gas and oil.<\/p>\n

Instinctively, we know that this is hyperbole at best and a lie at worst. <\/p>\n

When they start telling us that they are coming for our gas stoves<\/a> because of some alleged environmental impact made up by Washington bureaucrats,\u00a0it’s\u00a0time for everyone to take notice as a general rule.<\/p>\n

And this all after we experienced the lies,\u00a0misdirections, and sketchy proclamations surrounding COVID<\/a>. Americans don\u2019t know what or who to believe anymore.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This\u00a0dynamic\u00a0of\u00a0mistrusting\u00a0our\u00a0government leaders, however, goes from frustrating to downright\u00a0dangerous when confronted with an actual environmental disaster like what\u2019s unfolding\u00a0over East Palestine<\/a>. <\/p>\n

These situations are bad enough in their own right. Central to getting through them in as close to one piece as possible is being able to trust that our political leaders are trustworthy and know what they are talking about.<\/p>\n

Yet here we are. <\/p>\n

And the sad part is that once they do start to engage, rest assured that they will care far more about advancing their agenda and protecting themselves than doing what\u2019s right for the people directly affected. <\/p>\n

OHIO CONGRESSMAN SLAMS ‘BLAME GAME’ AFTER BUTTIGIEG PASSES BUCK ON DERAILED TRAIN IN EAST PALESTINE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

That\u2019s why moving forward here is what should matter.<\/p>\n

We must recognize that society\u00a0needs to transport all sorts of\u00a0consumer and industrial goods, sometimes\u00a0over\u00a0long distances\u00a0and transportation does come with some risk. Thus, our goal should be to mitigate and reduce those risks.<\/p>\n

That means ensuring that\u00a0industry\u00a0has\u00a0as many\u00a0transportation\u00a0options available as possible. This allows them to maximize safety based on the particulars of their activities. Unfortunately, the Biden administration<\/a> (and the left)\u00a0work to minimize those options, like stopping pipelines,\u00a0for\u00a0developing the safest transportation methods available.<\/p>\n

We cannot ignore this accident, but it should be done with sober mind and focus on the accident and the relevant factors. It must not\u00a0be overtaken by a larger political agenda, as so often happens. Doing so does nothing\u00a0to\u00a0make transportation safer or to better meet the critical needs of American to transport consumer and industrial goods in the\u00a0economical and safest ways possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thus, we must avoid\u00a0conflating\u00a0the facts and circumstances\u00a0of this accident with other industrial and consumer practices. We must be honest about the damage and threat caused by this accident but not ascribe what happened in Ohio<\/a>\u00a0to conditions\u00a0on a broader scale.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Perhaps most importantly, we must find out what happened, who was at fault and hold them accountable<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of the best ways to ensure that such accidents are minimized\u00a0moving forward\u00a0is to ensure that those responsible are held liable. A full investigation should take place to identify where and with whom fault lies and all parties should be held fully accountable — civilly for sure, and criminally, if appropriate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What is happening in Ohio<\/a> is unacceptable. How our leaders are responding is unacceptable. And the environment of mistrust they\u2019ve created is unacceptable. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, it’s also all so predictable. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
