In his new role, he is now a senior adviser to Chief Executive Officer,\u00a0Steve Ballmer.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Mundie\u2019s duties such as overseeing research, privacy, security as well as technology policy will now be taken over by Eric Rudder, chief technical strategy officer. Initially, this news was sent to all the staff via email and was subsequently made public on Dec 14<sup>th<\/sup> by Microsoft, the world\u2019s largest software maker.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT)\u2019s senior leadership team underwent two major changes over the past two months, Mundie\u2019s role-switch, being the latest. On Nov 12, the company bid an official adieu to the Windows chief, Steren Sinofsky. After having released the latest version of its flagship operating system in October, Ballmer is now putting together a new team that will start planning the next Microsoft upgrade, its target being the new and highly competitive mobile devices and computing over the internet, market.<\/p>\n<p>Ballmer wrote in a memo- \u201cthe team lead by Rudder continues to help in shaping the long- term technology-policy landscape in ways that will give our future products a clear path in the marketplace\u2019<\/p>\n<p>During his tenure at Microsoft, Mundie, 63, was responsible for the company\u2019s early efforts in developing software for handheld organizers, cars and televisions. He also developed technology policies in areas such as privacy and security, oversaw the Microsoft Research unit and the company\u2019s technology policy relationships with the Chinese and\u00a0Russian governments.<\/p>\n<p>Rudder had previously served as a Senior Vice President (servers and tools) and was in charge of Microsoft\u2019s relationship with software developers.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) were down by 1.42% to close at $27.06.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT)\u00a0said that Chief Research and Strategy Officer, Craig Mundie plans to retire in 2014 after two decades of having worked with the company.
