Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> said that the Kremlin is working to ready what he previously described as the world\u2019s “most powerful” warhead, the intercontinental ballistic Satan II missile, for “combat duty” as the war in Ukraine rages on.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Kremlin chief acknowledged this week<\/a> for the first time since the war began that his forces in Ukraine face tough times ahead, as the 10-month-long war shows no sign of ending.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Putin said military officials are now reviewing the state of the war \u2013 in which Russia has lost ground in recent months \u2013 along with its previous experience in international conflicts, like the war in Syria, when analyzing how to advance its “special military operation.”<\/p>\n

“We are well aware of\u00a0all the\u00a0NATO forces and\u00a0resources that they have been using against us over the\u00a0course of\u00a0the\u00a0special military operation,” he said Wednesday in an address to Russia\u2019s Defense Military Board.<\/p>\n

Putin laid out a series of plans he is looking to implement to overhaul his war effort, which includes bolstering “the\u00a0combat readiness of\u00a0[Russia\u2019s] nuclear triad”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It is the\u00a0main guarantee that our sovereignty and\u00a0territorial integrity, strategic parity and\u00a0the\u00a0general balance of\u00a0forces in\u00a0the\u00a0world are preserved,” he said in an announcement that comes as the U.S. looks to pledge another $44 billion<\/a> in aid for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The Russian president championed Moscow\u2019s stockpiles of\u00a0Avangard\u00a0hypersonic warheads and said Russia will continue to develop its hypersonic missiles with “unique characteristics, unmatched in\u00a0the\u00a0world.”<\/p>\n

Putin also said its would soon ready its RS-28 Sarmat, dubbed Satan II by Western officials, for “combat duty for\u00a0the\u00a0first time” \u2013 though he did not specify when this would occur.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“In\u00a0early January of\u00a0next year, the\u00a0Admiral of\u00a0the\u00a0Soviet Fleet Gorshkov\u00a0frigate will start combat duty,” he added, noting it will carry sea-based hypersonic missiles “without equal in\u00a0the\u00a0world.”<\/p>\n

Reports of communication failures among the ranks will also be addressed, Putin said while calling on engineers and weapons designers to regularly visit the front lines to address troop demands.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Top Ministry of Defense officials will also be expected to coordinate with regional heads in Ukraine as Putin looks to secure<\/a> the regions he claimed to have annexed earlier this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reports have long suggested that Russia has taken heavy losses on the battlefield. On Thursday, Ukraine assessed that Russia has lost over 100,000 troops in the war.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Putin looked to mitigate his losses by conscripting 300,000 men into Russia’s ranks in September. However, reports of insufficient training and inadequate arms has allegedly led to high death tolls among those drafted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We know that there are no small things on\u00a0the\u00a0battlefield, so you need to\u00a0pay special attention,” he said addressing his defense officials. “I\u00a0want to\u00a0emphasize it once again: medical kits, food, dry rations, uniforms, footwear, protective helmets, body armour\u00a0\u2013 everything should be at\u00a0the\u00a0most up-to-date and\u00a0highest level.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Everything that a\u00a0fighter uses should be cutting-edge, convenient and\u00a0reliable, and\u00a0the\u00a0supply should correspond to\u00a0their actual needs,” he continued. “If some ministry standards are outdated, they need to\u00a0be changed\u00a0\u2013 and\u00a0quickly.”<\/p>\n

Putin compared the war in Ukraine to other top wars involving Russia, including when Napoleon\u00a0Bonaparte\u00a0invaded Russia in 1812, as well as both World Wars.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Defense Minister\u00a0Sergei Shoigu also announced Wednesday that Russia would be increasing its military by 30%, bringing its fighting force up from just over 1 million personnel to 1.5 million, reported Reuters.<\/p>\n

Shoigu did not specify when this expansion would occur.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
