Former Vice President Mike Pence said on Monday that the Department of Justice should not bring any charges against President Trump<\/a> related to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“How many times did Adam Schiff say that there was evidence of collusion with Russia? Two and a half years we listened to Adam Schiff talk about evidence that he had seen that was never there,” Pence told “America\u2019s Newsroom” hosts Dana Perino and Bill Hemmer.<\/p>\n

Rep. Schiff said Sunday he believes the “evidence is there” to pursue a criminal case against Trump.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Congress has no formal role in Justice Department decisions and they can make recommendations today,” Pence responded, adding the committee has a “partisan taint” that has led to many Americans ignoring the hearings.<\/p>\n

“But when it comes to the Justice Department’s decision about bringing charges in the future, I would hope that they would not bring charges against the former president \u2026 As I wrote in my book, I think the president’s actions and words on January 6th were reckless. But I don’t know that it is criminal to take bad advice from lawyers. And so I hope the Justice Department is careful.”<\/p>\n

The House panel investigating the attack on January 6th is considering recommending the Department of Justice to pursue an unprecedented criminal charge of insurrection and two other counts against Trump.<\/a><\/p>\n

The House Jan. 6 committee<\/u><\/a> will hold what’s expected to be its final meeting Monday, when the panel is expected to take action against former President Trump and his allies.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The committee, which subpoenaed Trump in October<\/a>, will present its final findings after a nearly 18-month probe. It is also expected to issue several criminal referrals to the Justice Department, but all eyes are on whether Trump himself will be included in the action.<\/p>\n

“No one is really certain” what will happen, a senior GOP aide told Fox News Digital. “They subpoenaed Trump that doesn’t seem to have led to much.”<\/p>\n

It remains unclear if the former president, who launched his 2024 White House bid last month, has cooperated with the panel’s request for information.<\/p>\n

JANUARY 6 COMMITTEE HOLDS FINAL MEETING MONDAY, EXPECTED ACTION AGAINST TRUMP, ALLIES<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Pence said that such an indictment against a former U.S. president would be “divisive.”<\/p>\n

“I hope the Justice Department understands the magnitude of the very idea of indicting a former President of the United States<\/a>. I think that would be terribly divisive in a country at a time when the American people want to see us heal. At this time of year, we’re all thinking about the most important things in our lives, our faith, and our family. And my hope is the Justice Department will think very carefully.”<\/p>\n

At Monday’s meeting, the committee’s members, seven Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans, will each present a portion of their findings. Some will also summarize the investigation, others will focus on the alleged ties between Trump staffers and extremist groups that breached the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.<\/p>\n

While some evidence presented is likely to be new, few believe the committee has anything close to a smoking gun implicating Trump<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n
