Steve Goncalves, the father of University of Idaho<\/u><\/a> murder victim Kaylee Goncalves, told Fox News that his family is frustrated by the lack of transparency from the police as mixed messages and mounting confusion leave them pleading for answers from the public.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials investigating the slayings of the four students<\/a> have been criticized after they appeared to walk back their claim that one or more of the victims were “targeted,” saying late Wednesday that they do not know if that is the case \u2013 and that the suggestion by Latah County prosecutor Bill Thompson was a result of a “miscommunication”.<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t like it one bit,” Goncalves said in an interview on “The Story” Thursday. “I know these statements take\u00a0hours and multiple\u00a0individuals to review.\u00a0It\u2019s not like this was something\u00a0said on the side of the street within the\u00a0first five hours of the case.\u00a0These guys are professionals.\u00a0They sat in a room and this is\u00a0what they came out with?\u00a0They keep coming out with\u00a0statements that create more\u00a0questions than they answer. And then that creates a pressure.\u00a0“<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s why I\u2019m feeling like\u00a0there\u2019s so many people coming\u00a0and looking for answers.\u00a0And I\u2019m one of them,” he said.<\/p>\n

IDAHO MURDERS: WAS KAYLEE GONCALVES THE KILLER’S MAIN TARGET?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Goncalves\u00a0revealed on Wednesday that his daughter died in the same bed as her best friend Maddie Mogen, who has been by her side for the past decade. Mogen and Goncalves, both 21-year-old students, were stabbed multiple times by an unknown assailant who entered their house some time between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. on n Nov. 13.<\/p>\n

Goncalves said that when police showed him pictures of his daughter’s room, he immediately noticed that her bed was empty<\/a>, and was still made. Police had not previously revealed that Mogen and Goncalves were in the same bed when they were attacked. Goncalves said he respects the police investigating the killings and is working with authorities to determine what information he can share with the public about his daughter.<\/p>\n

“If you\u00a0knew the house design you would have seen that there was\u00a0a picture of Kaylee’s bed.\u00a0And It was made.\u00a0There was nothing in there.\u00a0So it was a process of\u00a0elimination if you had been in\u00a0the home, if you knew the inside\u00a0information like I knew that was\u00a0my daughter\u2019s room,” he said. “So to me, it had been out.\u00a0But I\u2019m sure they\u2019re not happy with\u00a0me saying that.\u00a0I didn\u2019t mean to say something\u00a0that was supposed to be under\u00a0wraps. I\u2019ve told them, you gotta work\u00a0with me, tell me what to say and\u00a0not to say and I’ll listen.”<\/p>\n

STEVE GONCALVES, FATHER OF IDAHO MURDER VICTIM, SPEAKS OUT AS POLICE TRY TO FIND A SUSPECT<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Goncalves said he believes the killer is close by and following the national reaction, adding that he and his wife have postponed a funeral out of fear that suspect could show up.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s pretty much a fact.\u00a0Who does something like this\u00a0and doesn\u2019t tune in to the\u00a0media?\u00a0Who wouldn\u2019t?\u00a0It\u2019s in his 100% selfish\u00a0interests,” he said. “So yes, he is.\u00a0We wouldn\u2019t want to do some kind\u00a0of celebration and exclude\u00a0anyone.\u00a0So yeah, he could easily be\u00a0there.\u00a0That\u2019s a sick kind of twisted\u00a0person that would do this kind of crime.”<\/p>\n

“I want this guy to be scared. I want him to be sick of seeing my face,” he added. “And I’m not going anywhere until this guy is off the street.”<\/p>\n

Turning to the public for help, Goncalves\u00a0appealed to the campus community to report anything out of the ordinary that could be helpful to move the investigation forward.<\/p>\n

“I think people that think that\u00a0they don\u2019t have information, I\u00a0know people had been scared to\u00a0share stuff because of there may\u00a0be alcohol or drugs or something\u00a0in the background.\u00a0I\u2019ve tried to work with them to\u00a0let everybody know that that is\u00a0not what they\u2019re working on,”\u00a0he said. “But I\u2019ve definitely heard from people that\u00a0they\u2019re scared to submit stuff.\u00a0It could be a party, could be\u00a0anything around that\u00a0neighborhood within that time\u00a0that could help us.\u00a0I think that community will\u00a0solve this case just as much as\u00a0those officers in that room.”<\/p>\n

The attack also took the lives of 20-year-old Xana Kernodle and her boyfriend 20-year-old Ethan Chapin, who was staying the night at the three-story residence. Two other roommates were not injured in the attack. No suspect has been identified and a murder weapon has not been located.<\/p>\n
