Uber released a report following the CNN probe<\/b><\/p>\n
After a CNN probe into sexual harassment and violence on the ride-hailing service four years ago, Uber has now released a 78-page report on safety events that covers 2019 and 2020. This is the second report Uber has ever produced about safety occurrences.<\/p>\n
According to Uber’s most recent report, the company got 3,824 complaints of the 5 most serious types of sexual assaults, which include rape and “non-consensual sexual penetration” (also known as “non-consensual sexual kissing of a non-sexual body part). As per its initial report published in December 2019, it is fewer than the 5,981 complaints it received in 2017 and 2018. Similar to its prior report, Uber claimed that passengers were the alleged victim in 43% of the cases in sexual assault case reports.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Uber’s overall number of trips in the US over the two-year period dropped to 2.1 billion from 2.3 billion in the initial report, and the average number of rides per day dropped to 2.8 million from 3.1 million. The business states that there were 38% fewer reports of sexual abuse between the first and second report.<\/p>\n
Sexual assault cases in 2020 were 141<\/b><\/p>\n
The 141 complaints of sexual assault in 2020 represent a decrease from the 247 cases in 2019. As per the data, the number of visits made in the US decreased over that time from 1.4 billion in 2019 to 650 million in 2020. Raped incidents accounted for just 0.00002 percent of all journeys, according to reports.<\/p>\n
Uber stated in the report, “The change in rate of sexual assault reports over time may have been impacted by a number of factors, including how the Covid-19 pandemic altered usage of the platform as well as Uber’s safety and transparency efforts.
