(NYSE:WMT)<\/strong> is readying itself to administer COVID-19 vaccines following the US FDA\u2019s approval.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Walmart signs deal to distribute COVID-19 vaccines <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The company\u2019s chief medical officer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/healthcare\/walmart-to-administer-coronavirus-vaccines-following-fda-approval\">Dr. Tom Van Gilder said<\/a> that the retail giant is preparing its over 5,000 stores and Sam&#8217;s Club pharmacies to receive COVID-19 vaccines doses once approved. Gilder said that the company will sign agreements with the US federal government for the distribution of the vaccines once they are available. Some of the preparations the retailer is making include having freezers and dry ice in all its pharmacies to handle requirements for vaccine storage. Gilders added that everything is about to be normal and people will soon start enjoying life post the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the agreement with the federal government, the company is also signing agreements with states to support vaccine distribution where needed. Gilder said that they will support through their [pharmacies or in long-term care facilities where states will indicate they need help. The CDC advisory panel recommended that healthcare workers, staff, and residents of long-term care facilities to be the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Most states will likely follow the CDC recommendation.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Retailers and pharmacies ready to distribute COVID-19 vaccine <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Walmart is among the companies looking up towards approval of COVID-19 vaccines ready for distribution. The company said that states will receive the vaccines from the federal government and they will determine who receives the vaccine first. A statement from the company indicated that they will not have a say who receives the vaccine first but will only facilitate what the states will direct. Walmart is strategically positioned to support vaccine distribution for most Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Walmart, Walgreens and CVS Health have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/12\/10\/walmart-prepares-to-administer-covid-19-vaccines-at-stores-across-the-us.html\">signed agreements with the government<\/a> to vaccinate residents and staff at long-term care facilities and nursing homes. Larry Merlo, CVS\u2019 CEO said that the company is ready to commence vaccinations in the locations immediately they receive the vaccines.
