Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) <\/strong>unveiled a new 5G WiFi hotspot \u2013 Inseego MiFi M2100. The new device costs $400 and economical compared to the previously released device that costs $650. MiFi M2100 supports both 5G and 4G LTE. It will also support the forthcoming 5G low band spectrum. Inseego supports connectivity for up to 30 devices that comprise laptops, mobiles, and tablets.<\/p>\n

With WiFi6, Verizon\u2019s 5G hotspot device can connect 30 devices. It allows direct tethering through USB-C port and comes with a 2.4\u201d touch screen display. Verizon developed this innovative device using the latest Qualcomm<\/a>\u00a0Snapdragon X55 5G modem. It ensures portability with a massive 3,500 mAH battery. The company expects to introduce a separate higher capacity battery (8,500 mAH) later this year.<\/p>\n

High band mm-wave 5G spectrum<\/strong><\/p>\n

Verizon uses millimeter-wave high band 5G spectrums to provide 5G connectivity. It is easily blocked by obstacles like trees and buildings and covers short distances only. On the other hand, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) provides better connectivity because it utilizes an 850 MHz spectrum for 5G low band network. AT&T provides a better range through speed is a bit slow.<\/p>\n

For 5G connectivity, T-Mobile utilizes 600 MHz low band spectrum. After merging with Sprint in April 2020, the company intends to integrate its network with the 2.5 GHz mid-band spectrum of Sprint for the layer cake approach.<\/p>\n

Dynamic spectrum sharing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Both Verizon and AT&T will deploy the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing technique for sharing 4G low band airwaves with 5G and boost performance. Verizon last week won in the mid-band spectrum, which faster compared to the low band spectrum, in the auction. Mid-band waves travel faster than high band waves.<\/p>\n

Verizon\u2019s coverage<\/strong><\/p>\n

Verizon currently provides coverage in certain parts of around 36 cities in the US. However, its newly introduced modem supports both the low band spectrum and mmWave spectrum. The company is putting in efforts to extend 5G connectivity to more cities soon.<\/p>\n

Compared to other carriers in the US, Verizon has the least coverage for 5G. T-Mobile provides 63% of the coverage for 5G in Jackson, Mississippi whereas Verizon offers just 0.7% coverage for its 5G in Omaha, Nebraska.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
