Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)<\/strong> engineer and VP Tim Bray<\/a> caused a stir following the announcement that he was resigning from the company. Bray announced that his final day with Amazon was on May 1, citing the retail giant\u2019s firing of whistleblowers.<\/p>\n

Through a blog post, the Amazon Web services engineer indicated that he was leaving the retail giant in protest of the company firing vocal workers who criticized<\/a> how the company has been handling warehouse employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. He called the move to fire vocal employees Marena Costa and Emily Cunningham chickenshit, although he later recalled the slur and referred to the move as mean spirited.<\/p>\n

Cunningham and Costa were fired because of their criticism of the company\u2019s treatment of workers during the coronavirus pandemic. They organized a protest against the company over the same. In March, the company had also fired Chris Smalls for organizing a demonstration regarding unsafe work conditions at the Queens warehouse in New York. Smalls was discussed in a high-level executive meeting with Amazon’s lawyer David Zapolsky indicating that he wasn’t smart or coherent. The company has denied that the employees were fired for calling the company out, insisting that they were fired for violation of Amazon’s internal policies.<\/p>\n

Bray receives job offers from various tech firms <\/strong><\/p>\n

Bray is a celebrated engineer for AWS and is also XML co-author and has spent over five years at Amazon. He had spells with Sun and Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL)<\/strong> but described his time at Amazon as one of the best jobs he has held. His resignation appears to have caught the eye of other leading tech companies such as Huawei, Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA)<\/strong>, and Google as well as other startups. In a tweet, he, however, indicated that for now, he is not seeking work.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Bray had indicated in a blog post that his resignation from his role at Amazon could cost him around $1 million annually<\/a>.
