As technology moves toward artificial intelligence (AI) one country has emerged as the top spot where companies want to set up shop.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Huge talent pool<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Taiwan has a rich heritage when it comes to technology. In particular, the Island country is unique in that both hardware and software companies are present within its borders. In fact, the tech ecosystem in the country is one of the most complete in the world.<\/p>\n<p>This did not happen by chance. Taiwan has taken seriously the nurturing of tech-focused talent since the \u201880s. Particularly, the Ministry of Science and Technology has played a pivotal role in creating the right environment for tech-focused talent to flourish.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Ministry\u2019s creations is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taiwannews.com.tw\/en\/news\/3450100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taiwan Tech Arena<\/a>. This facility might just be getting started but the culture of cultivating and nurturing innovation runs deep into Taiwan\u2019s DNA. While the TTA intends to churn out deep-tech entrepreneurs, the country is teeming with tech giants who are looking to exploit the talent.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tech giants trooping in Taiwan <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In August 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ralphjennings\/2018\/08\/17\/why-amazon-picked-taiwan-for-its-latest-innovation-center\/#4ab43eb75855\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) landed<\/a> in Taipei to set up an innovation center. This facility enables startups to utilize the AWS and, possibly, to become long term partners. Primarily, Amazon chose Taipei for its second innovation center in the region after South Korea because the talent there agrees with AWS expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/ralphjennings\/2019\/06\/28\/why-microsoft-is-expanding-ai-and-iot-in-taiwan-not-in-china\/?utm_source=FBPAGE&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=2431022785&amp;utm_campaign=sprinklrForbes%2BAsia#4c53cbcf77f8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the latest<\/a> member of the exclusive tech-giant club seeking to leverage Taiwan\u2019s talent pool. Like many other companies, MSFT is seriously looking into AI and how the technology can help the company keep its lead ahead of competition.<\/p>\n<p>To be sure, the software giant is setting up shop in Taiwan with a view on growing its AI and internet of things (IoT) strength. According to Michael Change, the director general for MSFT\u2019s AI R&amp;D center, the decision to settle into Taiwan was influenced by the availability of adequate talent.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Microsoft, like many other tech giants which have settled in Taiwan, passed up China because not only because of talent but affordability.
