Kopin Corporation\u00a0(NASDAQ:KOPN) has entered into an agreement with two leading OLED microdisplay companies. The partnership is a fraction of its distinctive fab-less OLED manufacturing policy for its new silicon-based Lightning OLED Displays which was launched in January this year. Kopin also indicates that the new partnership agreements are the most significant steps to meet the increasing demands for its products and services for both the Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).<\/p>\n
The company signed the first contract with Yunnan OLiGHTEK Opto-electronics Technology Co. Ltd. The two companies will jointly acquire the most advanced manufacturing OLED deposition line, which will be installed within the OLiGHTEK\u2019 plant, so as to augment the OLiGHTEK\u2019s current capabilities and proficiency. The process is expected to be complete for volume production by the end of the year. Under the partnership deal, Kopin will be permitted up to 50% of the new product line output.<\/p>\n
Kopin also signed a separate agreement with the BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd. The partnership will create a high-volume and high-tech facility to produce OLED micro-displays to meet the growing demands in the AR and VR markets. The new plant, which will be the world\u2019s biggest OLED manufacturing facility on silicon, will be built in Kunming, China and will be managed by BOE.<\/p>\n
According to Kopin, the agreements brings a positive response to the company\u2019s Lightning OLED microdisplays which have a fantastic high-quality image, small size, the low power consumption rate, and the fast frame-rate. The company will now use a fables production model to improve both the back-end silicon wafer processes and the front-end OLED depositions. The partnership between the three companies will bring the most outstanding quality products and capacity for the industry and for satisfying the changing needs of the AR and VR markets. The deal will be the first of its kind in the OLED microdisplays industry and if implemented, will bring significant elements of the false model to improve the products and services offered by Kopin.
