(NYSE:UPS)<\/strong> has agreed to part with $25 million as settlement in a lawsuit where the company was accused of presenting false data to the government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lawsuit involves claims that the company had been carrying out late or nighttime deliveries to government officials and keeping this information from the authorities to rack up more collections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Tuesday, the Justice Department revealed that part of the settlement amount will go to the whistleblower who initiated the lawsuit against the company. The individual who is a former UPS employee will receive $3.75 million from the settlement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the spokespersons from UPS claimed that the company still disagrees with the claim. However, UPS decided to settle rather than risk going through lengthy litigation processes that would probably cost more than the settlement amount. Additionally, further delays would be detrimental to the company&#8217;s performance in the near future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Susan Rosenberg, the spokeswoman, speaking on behalf of the company, said that the settlement does not mean that UPS has accepted that they are liable. However, the firm has incorporated improvements particularly in technology and training since the allegations emerged. The company agreed to transfer the settlement to the Justice Department that will receive $25 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The state of New Jersey will also benefit from the settlement by receiving $740,000 from UPS. The company has not yet settled with other states and has yet to reveal further information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A deeper look at the UPS lawsuit reveals that the lawsuit was filed by the former manager and driver, Robert K. Fulk. He took the case to the Federal court in Virginia where he revealed that the firm had been recording false delivery times and false explanations for delays. Fulk claimed that the trend had been going on since 2004.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fulk claimed that these the company racked up millions using such tactics. He alleged that the company used false claims to avoid reimbursements for overdue deliveries. United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) still maintains that the allegations are false.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>United Parcel Service, Inc.
