The lawsuit was filed regarding some data that was taken with former CEO, Aubrey McClendon, when he was fired. The settlement with American Energy-Utica alone included $25 million and 6,000 acres of land in Ohio. American Energy has also let go off Mr. McClendon as an officer. However, the lawsuit against Mr. McClendon and American Energy Partners is still pending.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is interesting to note here that there have not been any initial findings as yet, but American Energy-Utica has still chosen to reach a settlement. McClendon believes that this has been done to help continuous flow of business. He also commented that neither he nor AEP were asked for advice regarding the matter and he was strongly against it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">McClendon, along with AEP, stated in a press release that AEU has the right to resolve the issue on its own, but the move should not be mistaken that any of the claims are true. Furthermore, there have been no concessions on any liability by any party involved in the case. There still has been no confirmation from the parent company about whether McClendon remains the CEO of the parent company or not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The settlement comes close to the announcement of CHK\u2019s 1Q2015 earnings announcement. The analysts predict earnings of $0.04 per share, which is much lower than for the same period last year. The company has been in a lot of trouble financially, with the oil prices declining, CHK has had to sell a number of assets and plans to sell more this year. The $25 million from the settlement and the new land would help improve the company\u2019s balance sheet. The profits are still expected to decline, but the cut in assets would improve operational costs per rig.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK) closed at $15.45, losing 2.65%.
