The company is currently testing its new sideway status feature.<\/p>\n<p>Updating your status is not new to Facebook as the profile status tab has existed since 2006. However, it never went away. The new status feature called the \u201csidebar status\u201d quite different from the normal profile status feature. It will be integrated with the Facebook&#8217;s Messenger chat and will be tested over a certain demographic before being released and availed to all.<\/p>\n<p>The sidebar status will incorporate a small message from the account owner. The message will then be available or view by your friends. This means that those viewing their messenger contacts will be able to see the sidebar profile status. The aim is to provide friends with information about what you are currently up to, without having to change the profile status. The aim is to make it more interactive and promote more activity on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>The new feature will undergo pilot testing in Australia and Taiwan. In addition, the feature can be complemented by small pictures or icons that are supposed to provide a more emphatic feel to the status. Additionally, the status will have a time stamp. Thus the reader or anyone viewing the profile will know when exactly the activity in the status was in effect. It is also a good way to keep up with what activities friends are currently engaged in.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook has also incorporated additional privacy settings or users to customize according to their comfort. A wise move in light of the recent privacy violation accusations. The social media giant hopes that the feature will allow users to have a more personal connection with their friends.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)\u00a0does not currently have any plans to make the feature available to all the users. However, the initial tests will determine which move the company will make next with this product.
