Ever since the biotechnology company\u2019s antiviral drug \u2018brincidofovir\u2019 was used to treat both the NBC News cameraman in Nebraska and the Liberian patient in Dallas on an emergency basis, Chimerix is getting lot of positive attention. Strangely, brincidofovir has never been tested in Ebola patients and there are no approved treatments for this serious disease, but Chimerix\u2019s drug has become treatment of choice because of its availability. The drug has also showed signs of effectiveness when tested against other viruses in more than 1,000 people.<\/p>\n
Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC) seems to follow other Silicon Valley technology companies in splitting up the company into two. World\u2019s largest security company Symantec is reportedly planning to break up the company into two separate entities in a bid to be more agile, slim, and focused. The company, which has been struggling to keep up its revenues, is in talks to split up its security and storage businesses into two independent companies. According to media reports doing rounds, Symantec may soon make a formal announcement on this.\u00a0 If true, Symantec would join other tech giants such as eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HPQ) in breaking up the firm. In March 2014, Symantec fired its CEO Steve Bennett and named Brown as interim CEO.<\/p>\n
SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY) will offer loans to homeowners for solar systems. The loan will allow customers to own their solar systems and still pay less for electricity. SolarCity, the nation\u2019s biggest solar installer, is offering loan with a twist that may help the company gain customers. Customer pays the loan back based on the electricity that the solar panels produce. According to the company, customers can get the loans at 4.5 percent for a period of over 30 years. But, they will not pay a fixed amount every month, and rather pay only for the electricity the solar panels produce.<\/p>\n
