(NYSE:KR)<\/strong> has unveiled a program called, \u2018Pour It Forward\u2019, to help bridge the gap in milk during Hunger Action Month. The move comes on the back of some local food banks struggling to offer milk to clients every year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Teams Up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR)\u00a0said that it was aligning with Great American Milk Drive to facilitate Feeding America during Hunger Action Month. Over 12.5 million families suffer malnutrition and hunger in America, and they were looking towards local food pantries to offer the essential food items, a <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/kroger-launches-pour-forward-program-134100765.html\" target=\"_blank\">statement issued by the company<\/a> said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Milk was undoubtedly one of the most sought after item by the people. However, it was also one of the smallest donated items thus creating a gap for milk. Therefore,\u00a0The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR) has decided to invite customers to come forward and buy donation vouchers of different denominations of $1 or $3 or $5 while checking out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company indicated that all collected donations would benefit local food banks that were affiliated with Feeding America since they would be offering free milk coupon to their clients.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Not Enough Milk At Food Banks <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Kroger said that about 95% of food banks indicated that they were not getting enough milk to meet the requirements of their clients. Though the Agriculture Department of the U.S. has recommended 68 gallons of milk for adults every year, Feeding America\u2019s clients get barely one gallon of milk a person every year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Kroger Co. (NYSE:KR)\u00a0has been a founding partner of the country\u2019s biggest domestic hunger agency, Feeding America, and was involved in hunger relief efforts for over three decades. It has longstanding relationships with over 100 local food banks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Kroger said that its associates and customers have always squeezed opportunity to help the needy. The Kroger Co.
