(NASDAQ:QCOM)<\/strong> may soon be an issue that the mobile chipmaker would have to deal with, and it could bear serious consequences if the company is found on the wrong side of the law. A British chipmaker by the name Icera complained to the European antitrust authority that Qualcomm was making business unbearable for it because of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techtimes.com\/articles\/14167\/20140828\/qualcomm-may-face-eu-antitrust-investigation.htm\">monopoly practices<\/a>. Now, the issue could be discussed given that Qualcomm appears to be using its market dominance in the bad way, which is why even China is on its neck.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shares of QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) tumbled 0.82% to $76.34 on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Massive fine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The European Commission\u2019s antitrust body could launch investigations into claims that Qualcomm, the U.S. company that is considered the world\u2019s largest mobile chipmaker, is advancing monopoly practices in the region, which is against trade regulations. The company is specifically accused by Icera for using patent-related incentives and exclusionary pricing to win over customers against rivals. If QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) is found to be on the wrong side of the law, the company could face massive fines of up to 10% of its worldwide revenue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Icera, the company that lodged complaints against Qualcomm, is an affiliate of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Antitrust controversies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Qualcomm is not new to antitrust controversies. In 2009, it was fined about $287 million in South Korea when the country&#8217;s fair trade organ found out that it was abusing its dominance of the CDMA chip market. Such chips are used by major phone manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and LG among other.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">China is also probing QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) over possible violation of antitrust rules. However, recent reports cited that the company was willing to resolve the investigations so that it could get the issues behind it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Market dominance is a prized status for companies, but it also comes with risks just as QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) has discovered now that all eyes are tracking it as a market leader in mobile chips market. Even <strong>Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)<\/strong> has had a fair share of antitrust challenges.
