In fact, IE controlled 95% of the browser market share back in 2003. That portion has declined and IE could be holding just about 58% of the Web browser market share. At 58% IE is not bad off, but it does reveal what competition has done to it and Microsoft has been thinking hard about it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shares of Microsoft jumped 1.17% to close at $44.79 on Friday. The stock is up 20% this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Projecting a new Microsoft image<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Everyone knows that Microsoft under CEO Satya Nadella has been projecting itself as a company that is out to exercise its technological power to attract bigger revenue and return good profits. Therefore, one of the many things that could be seen happening at Microsoft is rebranding of its popular Web browser, Internet Explorer or IE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They have been exploring the possibility of renaming the product and insiders have been very passionate recommending the same, according the company\u2019s engineer Jonathan Thompson. IE faces competition from <strong>Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)<\/strong>\u2019s Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and <strong>Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)<\/strong>\u2019s Safari. The main reason for the decline in the popularity of IE is that users still remember the reputation issues with the product that existed more than a decade ago. As such, for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), renaming the product could be a great way to address the reputation issue once and for all. However, nobody knows when that renaming action will be taken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>IE in iOS\/Android<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Besides giving IE a new name, some have also raised issues about including the product in iOS and Android, for instance. Android and iOS are the leading mobile platforms, which is an opportunity that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) would love to tap. In fact, Microsoft already offers Office for iPad and IE could be another step into Microsoft integration into other operating systems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is clearly doing a lot these days to touch up its image and the pocket.
