(NYSE:BX)<\/strong> continues to make a push for the natural gas business after it announced plans to complete the acquisition of Louisiana shale filed for about <a href=\"http:\/\/dealbook.nytimes.com\/2014\/08\/14\/blackstone-to-buy-louisiana-shale-assets-for-1-2-billion\/?partner=yahoofinance\" target=\"_blank\">$1.2 billion<\/a>. The private equity company has already confirmed that it will acquire 50% stake in the large section of the Haynesville shale. The stake is currently owned by Royal Dutch shale and comprises of approximately 107,000 net acres in Louisiana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong> Booming Energy Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The deal essentially highlights the ongoing betting on natural gas by private equity firms as the energy sector continues to gain momentum in the U.S. Blackstone acquisition comes on the heels of <strong>Apollo Global Management LLC (NYSE:APO)<\/strong> announcing it had agreed to buy 360,000 acres and other assets for about $1.8 billion. Back in 2012, Blackstone announced it had partnered with an oil producer to invest in energy assets in the Gulf of Mexico. Blackstone already has a $2 billion investment in <strong>Cheniere Energy, Inc. (NYSEMKT:LNG)<\/strong> which is currently developing ways to ship Liquefied natural gas overseas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE:BX) is investing in the Haynesville deal through an exploration and Production Company created recently, called Vine Oil &amp; Gas. Blackstone plans to grow Vine to be an independent company able to partner with other companies in the growing business of drilling of oil and natural gas under the leadership of Eric Mash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong> Senator Acquires 6% Stakes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eric Mash joins Blackstone after working for <strong>Encana Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ECA)<\/strong> as a senior executive. The Haynesville deal is set to close in the fourth quarter subject to regulatory approval.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Separately, Senator Investment Group hedge fund backed by The Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE:BX) has announced it has acquired a 6.3% holding stake in Radian Group. The move essentially highlights how asset managers have in the recent past been investing in the recovering mortgage industry. Senator now holds 12 million shares in Radian according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2014-08-14\/blackstone-backed-senator-takes-6-3-radian-group-stake.html\" target=\"_blank\">regulatory fillings<\/a> making it the second largest holding company in the entity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boston, MA 08\/15\/2014 (wallstreetpr) \u2013 The Blackstone Group L.P.
