(NASDAQ:SPLS)<\/strong>\u2019s Canada division will start identifying packaging reduction opportunities besides expanding the company\u2019s eco-responsible product assortment. The company has also made it clear about its programs for battery and recycling of ink cartridge apart from setting the target for the current year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Sustainability Goal<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS)\u00a0indicated that it will continue to carry and attach a broad variety of eco-responsible products for both online and in-store. The focus of product assortment included storage boxes apart from recycled content being used to make paper products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company has also provided additional calculator to its product assortment division, Sustainable Earth product that characterize recycled material of 100% casing\u00a0 made from recycled toner and ink cartridge. Staples indicated its Copy and PrintCenters provide business cards using recycled materials and plans to add postcards in the current year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Used Cartridges<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS)\u00a0is targeting to collect 20 million cartridges by Earth Day in 2016. For this, Staples Canada has offered its customers the choice to drop used toner and ink cartridges in every area. The retailer said that it had exceeded its target of collecting 5 million cartridges between Earth Day in 2012 and Earth Day in 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the first quarter, it could collect over 684K cartridges representing an 8.8% growth from the fourth quarter of 2013. Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS)\u00a0also encourages schools in Canada to order a free cartridge recycling bin by running a program called Staples Canada School Recycling with the intention of collecting and diverting 100K cartridges by Earth Day in 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Emissions Reduced in 1Q<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Staples Canada said that it remains conscious of conserving energy across its business by cutting its energy expenses and expand energy sources. As a result, the company could cut down 3,572 metric tons of CO2 emissions during the initial two months of the current calendar year alone.
