(NYSE:AEO)<\/b> announced on Wednesday, that it will shutter 150 stores in North America in the next 3 years, which includes the 70 stores in the year 2014. The announcements have been triggered by the merchandise markdowns and the weak sales. The sites that are decided to shut down were not announced by the Pittsburgh based retailer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The profits of first quarter of the year 2014 were posted by the company as $3.87 million, or 2 cents per share. The first quarter ended on May 3 this year, saw its profit decrease from $27.8 million or 14 cents per share in the last year. The adjusted EPS was 18 cents a year ago. The net revenue for the first quarter was $646 million which reduced down by 5% from the $679.5 million for the corresponding period of the year 2013.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Words from the CEO<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (NYSE:AEO), which had opened 11 new stores and had closed 20 during the quarter, stated that about two-third of the stores that have been identified for closures are all American Eagle stores. In the year 2014, the company has expected to close 20 Aerie and 50 American Eagle in North America. The interim CEO of the company said that the results of the first quarter were consistent and to the expectations. He also said that the quarter reflected increased markdowns and weak sales. The company is committed to improve its profitability and is working hard to plan and strengthened its channels, operations and brands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also said that the company will continue to build omni-channel capabilities and will rationalize its store fleet. The company will also aim at reducing expenses, deliver great merchandise and most importantly, the growth of international licensed stores. American Eagle Outfitters Inc.
